I’ve Renewed My Vows to Music [Day 4]

Ok, so I’ve been gone for quite some time. You know how life is, you get busy and put things off yet they are never really forgotten! Today I had sometime to listen to Last.FM (which is an online streaming radio that I prefer over Pandora) and I heard a few new songs by some artists that I’m already into. I thought I’d share :)

1. Robyn… I like Robyn cause she makes songs that remind me of the times when you’re just chilling in your room doing nothing and thinking about boys. I can remember back in the day listening to her 1995 hit “Do You Know What It Takes”. It’s cool to see how she’s evolved. Check out this song called “Hang With Me”.

2. Regina Spektor… Who doesn’t like Regina Spektor?! The tone of her voice is soooo unique and I like that all her songs use quirky wordplay. What’s also awesome is that she has a tendency to seamlessly incorporate percussion sounds into her songs just by the way he picks and chooses when to enunciate. The first song I ever heard of hers was “Eet” which I loved but she definitely got me hooked when I heard “Hero” from the soundtrack of 500 Days of Summer.  She may be old news to a lot of people but I’m still feeling her out. Here’s the newest one that I have on repeat. “Edit”

3. Imogen HeapThis girl from the UK is…… still ok in my book. I was listening to this song called “Hide and Seek”. It’s from 2005 and was recently sampled by Jason Derulo in “Whatcha Say”. I would have never put the two together but after listening to the whole song, the sample is such a small part of it that anyone who doesn’t know her music well would have not guessed that in a million years. The entire song is in auto tune. I think that is an interesting choice for this genre of music. Take a look!

4. Bat for Lashes…The lead singer Natasha Kahn is awesome! She’s really talented on the keys and has a really nice richness in her voice. This song makes me think of something from the old country in Britain. I’m just mystified and I like the lyrics alot. “Horse and I”.

Enjoy pleasuring your EARS!

I’ve Renewed My Vows To Music [Day 3]

To me, this artist is so unique but so untapped in my social circles. SIA is not only one of my more recent musical addictions but she’s been a lyrical inspiration for all things upside down and inside out in my life. :) She speaks from the soul in a honest and sometimes uncanny way. Her voice is raw and slurry. Sometimes I can’t understand what she’s saying but that’s the mystery that I like so much. She’s known for her song “BREATHE ME” from the TV series Six Feet Under. Its eerie and inviting from some cold dark place. Here’s a live version.

This got me interested in her. Once I heard that, I had to check out more. Here’s a song that anyone without her cd “We Are Born” probably hasn’t heard. And if you own it, you probably listen to it repeatedly.  Its a great song about knowing what you want and what you deserve in a relationship..This is an awesome acoustic version! It’s called “BE GOOD TO ME“.

Lastly….. I love social media outlets….because, a reader of my blog let me know that I was missing out on a really good cover by none other than Ellie Goulding. Check out her awesome cover of “ONLY GIRL IN THE WORLD” by Rhianna. It’s folky and her choices in the arrangement I just love. She totally made this song a tad bit more intimate for me. The strings in the background are awesome, adding suspense to her voice.

I’ve Renewed My Vows to Music [Day 2]

Ellie Goulding!

I’m really excited because she’s got this fairy falsetto on a dance track. Her song “LIGHTS” has an addictive bass beat and it just makes me want to get up and dance. On top of that, the words are positive and this is now put on repeat. I’m very interested in checking out what else she’s got going on because I think she’d be good on a ballad track. I have a feeling she can tap into her emotions and project that through a song.

I’ve Renewed My Vows to Music [day 1]

It’s been an adventure trying to ID3 tag all the songs in my iTunes library. I have so much music it is ridiculous. After going through about 100 songs, renaming them, organizing them, I realized…. I hadn’t really discovered anything new lately. I decided I was going to start making time to branch out and listen to new things. And when I find some artist that is just too awesome or maybe kinda lame, I’m gonna talk about it. Today, I heard the strangest song. It’s called SWAGGER JAGGER, and it samples that ol’ tune “Oh My Darlin’”. How creative. It had a good beat and was catchy. I thought the vocals were mmmeh, ok… but with time, Cher Lloyd could make some club bangin hits! Check it Out
